Eligibility
All DMU students are eligible to participate in this opportunity, however, students will need to clearly articulate their interest in the courses/modules they are wanting to study. DMU Global will consider applicants’ academic performance as part of the selection process. The maximum number of places on this opportunity is 5.
Students are recommended to check the eligibility criteria before applying. Once accepted by DMU Global, successful candidates will be required to apply directly to UPF.
About
The Universitat Pompeu Fabra offers the Barcelona International Summer School (BISS) as a flagship program to advance the curriculum of both domestic and international undergraduate students during the summer term. A wide array of on-campus courses are offered that DMU students can join.
Courses can be studied in English, Spanish or Catalan, in and international classroom environment. They are structured in modules of different duration and intensity, with DMU offering financial support for students who participate in the 4 week courses on offer.
Subjects have been conceived as an invitation to think and learn beyond and across disciplines, while approaching social and scientific challenges from content, methodological and practical perspectives. Independent research projects along these lines can be supervised by UPF scholars in the BISS summer term.

Practical information
Students that participate on this summer school will be able to choose from a range of accommodation options offered by ResaInn. The estimated cost per night for accommodation is between £30-£35 per night (£800-£900 in total). The programme fee (£775/900€) and registration fee (£130/1500€) paid to UPF includes the social programme and all tuition and classes.
All DMU students will receive £500 DMU Global special summer school bursary and a minimum of £480 Turing Scheme funding. Students who meet qualifying criteria for ‘disadvantaged students‘ will also qualify for an additional £110, and £250 towards your flight costs.
Cultural activities
Whilst in Barcelona students will have free time to explore the city. Recommendations include visiting Gaudi’s famous architectural gems such as La Sagrada Familia and Park Güell. You can also spend time along one of Barcelona’s many beaches, including Barceloneta. Students are also encouraged to venture beyond the city to nearby locations such as Girona and Sitges.
Why participate?
Travel to Spain is permitted according to the travel rules for England as listed on UK Government website. Students are expected to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 vaccine prior to travel. Further guidance can be found on the FCDO webpage for the Spain.
