Trip description

This trip to Dubai will give students valuable insight into the pharmaceutical landscape in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. This will be facilitated through a visit to Dubai Pharmacy College (the first University to offer Pharmacy in the UAE) and through a joint teaching session.

Not only will you have the opportunity to engage and make relationships with international students studying pharmacy, but you will also be attending DUPHAT; a 3 day Pharmacy conference held at the Dubai World Trade Centre where you can listen to world renowned speakers discuss the latest pharmaceutical developments. There will also be an opportunity to present a poster at the Dubai Pharmaceutical Technologies conference.

The estimated total cost for flights and accommodation for this trip is £900-1000. Students will be expected to pay the remaining amount after the £400 DMU Global bursary is deducted.

Students will be required to pay £90 (estimated cost) for entry to the DUPHAT conference.

Learning Objectives

Participating in a DMU Global opportunity can help you develop a range of skills and competencies that enhance your studies. Through participation in this trip to Dubai we expect that you will:

  • Gain a broader understanding of the latest developments in Pharmacy globally
  • Improve communication skills by presenting a poster at the DUPHAT conference
  • Experience interprofessional learning in a multicultural environment
  • Discover and learn more about Middle Eastern culture

Before the trip to Dubai there will be a virtual preparatory talk with the Dubai Pharmacy College and a session with CLASS to help students prepare their poster prior to the event. After the event students will have the opportunity to present their posters to current students who did not attend the trip and also reflect on what they learnt through this experience.

Cultural Activities

Dubai is an indulgent and glamorous multicultural city famed for being a luxury travel destination home to a variety of activities and attractions. Whilst in Dubai, students will have the option to hop on a desert safari, visit the Jumeirah Mosque, pay a visit to the Museum of the Future to discover near-future technologies from the world’s leading innovators or pop by the Dubai Global Village a one-stop destination for some of the best entertainment, shopping, dining, and attractions in the region.

Alternatively, you could shop to your heart’s content at Dubai Mall – the biggest mall in the world. Last but not least, take it all in from the dizzy heights of the architectural masterpiece that is the Burj Khalifa.
