Eligibility

Students enrolled on the Intercultural Competence Course are eligible to participate in this opportunity as long as they have attended 80% of the sessions. There is a maximum of 25 places available, with a minimum of 10 participants required for this opportunity to take place. Students are recommended to check the eligibility criteria before applying.

Trip description

On this invaluable trip, led by the Global Mobility Office in cooperation with Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt, University of Applied Sciences – Austria (FHWN), students will have the opportunity to collaborate with FHWN students on an exciting project in which you will develop ideas and strategies for improving integration among students in multicultural international university campuses as well as exploring the culturally and historically rich cities of Vienna and Wiener Neustadt.

The purpose of this trip is for students to develop a stronger appreciation of diversity and inclusivity and to practice skills learnt and improved through the course for effective communication with people from different cultural backgrounds. It will also support the development of soft skills such as, teamwork and communication.

As outcomes of the project, students will present their own sustainable ideas and strategies for facilitating positive intercultural encounters and integration amongst students from different cultural and national backgrounds, to be implemented as ongoing projects at both universities.

The estimated total cost for flights, accommodation and UK transfers for this trip to Vienna is £350. With the deduction of the £250 DMU Global bursary, students will be expected to pay £100.

COVID-19 information

Travel to Austria is permitted according to the travel rules for England as listed on UK Government website. Students are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to travel. Further guidance can be found on the FCDO webpage for Austria.
