Trip description

This trip to Paris will introduce students to Salon International de la Lingerie and the Interfilière trade show, a unique international event designed to facilitate lingerie, swimwear, activewear, materials and accessories in sourcing and to fuel creativity. The trade show is an incubator for progressive thinking and an accelerator for trends in the field of textiles, components, luxury goods, fashion and technical fabrics. Interfilière explains what consumers want and anticipates evolutions in growth markets. More than ever before, it’s the reflection of a constantly changing international market that’s driven by innovation and performance.

Paris is the perfect city to host this event as it is undoubtedly a destination home to world-renowned art galleries and a plethora of culturally diverse museums and world heritage sites; including contemporary and baroque architecture. All aspects of this trip to Paris are aimed at challenging design thinking for students final projects whilst providing a greater understanding of the sector.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain confidence and independence through travelling to a different environment
  • Be inspired by innovative design through fashion, art, cultural heritage and architecture
  • Discover learning opportunities beyond the classroom to enhance your experience at DMU

Cultural Activities

Students will also have the opportunity as part of the trip to meander around a variety of museums including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, a museum of the decorative arts and design, located in the west wing of the Louvre, the Musée Jacquemart-André home to the finest private collection of artworks in Paris, and the Musee D’Orsay home to a vast collection of Impressionist art by Degas, Cézanne, Manet, Renoir, and Monet.

There will of course be time to shop and browse some of the finest Haute Couture shops in the world from Dior and Chanel to Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent, for serious fashion lovers, trips to The Broken Arm and Tom Greyhound are a must. If you’re short on time and looking for a (very stylish) one-stop shop BHV, or Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville, is sure to meet your shopping goals. Check out Le Marais for a unique melting pot of culture, food, art and atmosphere. A trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without taking in the picture-perfect views so of course stop by the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Sacré-Cœur.

Before this trip to Paris, there will be preparatory talks delivered by DMU academic staff about the city of Paris and expectations for the visit to the trade fair i.e. professional behaviour, trend research and how this visit can be used within your final project.
