When to apply?

DMU Global organises a range of overseas trips throughout the academic year. The schedule below outlines the three application rounds and trip dates for the 2026-27 academic year:

To apply for a DMU Global opportunity you need to complete our online application form. Simply click the ‘Apply Now’ button or link (these are unique to each opportunity) in the opportunity advert that you would like to apply for.

Important: our application form will time out after 60 minutes and data will not be saved

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Generative AI tools to write my DMU Global application?

Our application form is designed to help you share meaningful answers that reflect your personal thoughts, feelings, experiences and motivations for participating in our opportunities. Therefore, using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and others to write or generate content for your application is not permitted.

You may wish to use generative AI tools ethically to help you generate ideas or research the destination, but the answers in your application must be entirely your own work.

We actively check for the use of generative AI and reserve the right to reject any applications that have been created using these tools.

What are the questions in the application form?

In our application form you will need to provide three distinct answers for the following questions:

Why do you want to take part in this opportunity? Your answers may refer to academic, professional or personal motivations. Use the 100 word limit for each text box to fully explain and showcase your interest in the opportunity
What skills or knowledge do you hope to develop as a result of participating in this opportunity? E.g. Enriching your subject knowledge, enhancing intercultural awareness, developing communication skills, adaptability, confidence etc. Make specific reference to the opportunity you are applying for, your interest in the country, culture and planned activities

How can I submit a good application?

As long as you are eligible to take part in the opportunity, selection decisions will be based on the quality of your answers for the questions above. Below we have included some tips for writing a good application:

Prepare your three answers for each of the two motivation statements in advance of making the application
Use the 100 word limit for each text box to fully explain and showcase your interest in the opportunity
Clearly demonstrate your motivations with particular reference to academic, professional or personal development
Make specific reference to the opportunity you are applying for, your interest in the country, culture and planned activities

Can I apply for more than one trip?

Students are recommended to apply for no more than 2 overseas opportunities in each application round. Further application submissions will not be considered.

When will I get the outcome of my application?

You will receive the outcome of your application by email within 7 days of the opportunity deadline closing. If you are offered a place, you will need to complete the following steps to formally accept your place:

Submit some additional details to help us better meet your needs and accept the student agreement, the terms and conditions of your experience.
Submit your bank details in the MyBank Account tile (only if you are responsible for booking travel). We will aim to pay your bursary into the specified account at least two months before your departure date.

If you don’t formally accept your place within 10 days of receiving your offer email then the offer may be withdrawn and you could lose your place on the opportunity.

If bookings are being made by your Faculty, the bursary will be deducted from the total cost of the booking. You will be asked to make a payment for the remainder of the cost of your trip through the DMU online store.

After you have formally accepted and paid for your place, you will be invited to attend a DMU Global briefing session. This will give you more information about your trip.

What happens if I change my mind?

You will have up to 14 days from submitting your additional details to withdraw from the DMU Global opportunity. If you no longer wish to participate in the opportunity, please email dmuglobal@dmu.ac.uk.

Important: if you withdraw from the opportunity after 14 days of submitting your additional details you will be liable for costs incurred to the university, including full repayment of the DMU Global Bursary.

How will my DMU Global opportunity be recognised?

All opportunities are formally recorded on your HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report). Some opportunities are directly linked to academic modules and may include some form of assessment.
