About

Do something new this academic year and learn a language with DMU Global, you can choose from: French, German, Japanese, Korean or Spanish for just £40 for 10 weeks! Courses are designed for complete beginners, ideal for students who have very little or no previous knowledge of the language. Classes will be held on campus and focus on developing practical listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through a mix of interactive group work and independent learning.

Eligibility

All DMU students are eligible to take part in one language class per academic year. The maximum number of places in each class is 25, and the minimum number of students required for classes to go ahead is 10. Please check our eligibility criteria for further details.

Beginner language classes are 2 hours long and run for 10 weeks in Term 1 and Term 2 classes take place Monday – Thursday between 5-7pm, please see the schedule for Term 2 below:

Sign-up Process

  • To secure your place click the ‘sign-up’ button below and pay the £40 participation fee via the DMU Online Store.  You will also need to agree to the terms and conditions of our language classes.
  • Choose a 10-week beginners language class (once you have logged in to your account you will be able to select from the drop-down menu).
  • Class details i.e. classrooms and tutors will be sent out within 7 days of the sign-up deadline and textbooks will be provided in the first class.
  • If you withdraw from the language course, please notify DMU Global (dmuglobal@dmu.ac.uk) and your language tutor by email, the course is non-refundable.
Languages Digital Badge

Upon successful completion of your chosen language course, you will be awarded a digital badge which recognises the level and language that you studied. This can be displayed on your LinkedIn profile and in your digital backpack. Click here for more information about digital badges.
