Donggkuk University, Seoul, South Korea

Founded in 1906, Dongguk University is one of South Korea’s established private universities. Located in Jung-gu at the foot of Namsan, it sits in central Seoul with easy access to many of the city’s cultural and historical landmarks.

The university offers a variety of programmes across humanities, social sciences, technology, arts, film and media, and traditional Korean medicine, giving students plenty of options while abroad. Its Buddhist foundations inform an emphasis on balanced education and social responsibility.

Dongguk’s central location provides convenient access to Seoul’s culture, history and daily life, making it a practical and engaging base for study abroad.

Exchange students at Dongguk University are welcomed through a variety of support programs and events. Each student is paired with a local buddy through the Buddy Program, offering 1:1 guidance on campus life, Korean culture, and everyday student needs. Orientation events are held for new international students, introducing them to campus facilities and life in Seoul.

Dongguk also hosts cultural and social activities throughout the semester, organised by the Dongguk International Student Supporters Association (DISSA), giving exchange students the chance to meet peers, participate in festivals, and experience Korean traditions. The university provides dedicated support services for international students, including help with registration, immigration, and general student affairs, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for all.

Travel & accommodation

Travel – The nearest major airports to Donggkuk University are Gimpo Airport or Incheon Airport. From the airports, you can reach campus by subway or bus.
Accommodation – Students can choose to live in on-campus housing or arrange accommodation off-campus independently. If you apply for on-campus housing and are approved, you will be allocated to one of three dormitories: Namsan Residence Hall, Chungmu Residence Hall, or Pildong Residence Hall (female students only). It is not possible to choose your dormitory, as allocations are made automatically based on availability, and not all applicants may receive a room due to limited availability. If allocated a room, it will be available for one semester only, so you will need to arrange accommodation for the second semester.

Visas & insurance

Visas – To take part in this exchange you are responsible for ensuring that you meet South Korean entry requirements.
Insurance – DMU insurance is not sufficient for studying on exchange in South Korea, and students are required to purchase health insurance, and must also enroll in the National Health Insurance Service NHIS.

Hosei University, Tokyo, Japan

Hosei University is one of Japan’s leading private universities, located in the heart of Tokyo, a global city that blends cutting-edge modernity with deep cultural heritage. Founded in 1880, Hosei combines a long academic tradition with an international outlook, welcoming students from around the world. At Hosei University, exchange students are encouraged to actively engage in a variety of campus activities and events that foster cultural exchange and community involvement. The Global Education Center organizes regular events such as the Welcome Party and Farewell Party, providing opportunities to connect with fellow international and Japanese students.

Additionally, the HUBs (Hosei University Buddy System) offers a platform for exchange students to collaborate with local students, assisting with daily life and participating in various social events.

For those interested in media and public relations, the HOSEI Promotion Project allows students to work alongside Japanese peers to promote the university and Japan in English through social media, content creation, and event reporting.

Travel – Hosei University’s campuses are located in central Tokyo, with the Ichigaya campus in Chiyoda-ku and the Koganei campus in western Tokyo. The city is well-connected by trains and buses, making commuting to campus easy. The nearest international airports are Narita International Airport (NRT) and Haneda Airport (HND). From either airport, students can reach central Tokyo by train or bus.

Visas – To take part in this exchange you are responsible for ensuring that you meet Japanese entry requirements.
Insurance – DMU insurance is not sufficient for studying on exchange in Japan. It is mandatory for exchange students to purchase National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken) after arrival, according to the Japanese Government Policy for foreigners who will stay over 90 days. Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, USA

Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, is a dynamic university offering a wide range of programs, including business, architecture, the arts, and emerging disciplines. Students going on exchange to Ball State University can immerse themselves in a lively and welcoming campus community that offers a wide range of opportunities to get involved, stay active, and experience American university life.

Ball State University offers a vibrant and engaging student experience with more than 400 student organisations across academic, cultural, creative, and service interests. Through the Office of Student Life, students can get involved in clubs, leadership programmes, and campus events listed on the “Be Connected” platform. Each year, the university hosts its Weeks of Welcome , including events such as the Activity Fair and “Rock the Halls,” designed to help new students connect and settle into campus life.

Students in academic disciplines can also join subject-specific societies – from the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) to theatre groups like Alpha Psi Omega and Busted Space. The Multicultural Center also supports organisations that celebrate diversity and promote inclusion across campus.

The university’s Recreation Services offer extensive opportunities for fitness, sport, and outdoor adventure. Facilities include the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) with fitness studios, a climbing wall, pools, and over 400,000 square feet of indoor recreation space, plus more than 20 acres of outdoor fields.

Students can take part in intramural sports such as basketball, volleyball, and football, or join one of over 25 sport clubs, which range from competitive teams to recreational and instructional groups. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Outdoor Pursuits Rental Centre provides equipment hire and organises trips and clinics for activities like hiking, camping, and skiing.

Ball State is also home to the Cardinals, who compete in NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics.

Travel – Ball State is in Muncie, Indiana, which is in the heart of the Midwest, USA. The campus is 70 miles northeast of Indianapolis, and the closest airport is Indianapolis International Airport (IND). Shuttle service is available from IND to Ball State campus for arrival and departure. Other airports in the region (without shuttle service to campus) include Fort Wayne (FWA), Cincinnati (CVG), Dayton (DAY), and Chicago O’Hare (ORD).
Accommodation – You will need to apply to live in housing on-campus as an exchange student. Ball State offers on-campus housing in one of their eleven residence halls. Most rooms are doubles with air-conditioning. Bathrooms are private, semi-private, or community-style. Meal plans are required for students living in residence halls. What does the application process look like?

Applying for an ISEP placement is a two stage process:

Apply to DMU Global
- Applications for the 2026–27 academic year open on Monday 27 October 2025 and close on Monday 12 January 2026.
- Applications are submitted via DMU Global as advised here.
Apply to ISEP
- If your DMU Global application is successful, you will then submit an application directly to ISEP by Sunday 1 March 2026.
- At this stage, you can select up to 10 preferred universities, and ISEP will attempt to place you at one of your top four choices.

DMU Global and ISEP will run information sessions to guide you through the process and provide tailored support at each stage.

Fees and support

ISEP operates on a model where you pay DMU housing and meal costs. In return, you are provided with pre-arranged accommodation and a meal plan at your host university, making it broadly comparable to continuing your studies at DMU.

There are a number of fixed fees that will be payable to DMU/ISEP as part of your year abroad. For the 2025-26 academic year, these fees included:

ISEP Exchange Application Fee: $100 (approx. £76)
ISEP Exchange Placement Fee: $450 (approx. £345)
Accommodation: £6,095
Meal plan: £2,808

Please note: Fees are subject to change and will be updated for the 2026–27 academic year.

Carleton University – Ottawa, Canada

Carleton University is a public comprehensive university in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The university is reputed for its strength in a variety of academic fields such as Humanities, International Business, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, and many of the disciplines in its Faculty of Public Affairs. The university is also renowned for the strong performance of its men’s basketball team, which won seven consecutive Canadian national championships between 2006 and 2017.

California State University, Chico – Chico, California, USA

California State University (CSU), Chico was founded in 1887 and is the second oldest campus in the 23-campus California State University system. The University offers more than 100 undergraduate major and minor options and has almost 18,000 students. Chico is located north of Sacramento and is only a few hours away from Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and the Oregon border. A three-hour drive away from the mountains, the city or the beach.

Francis Marion University – Florence, South Carolina, USA

Francis Marion University (FMU) is a public liberal arts university located six miles east of Florence, South Carolina. The campus includes 100 acres of mixed pine-hardwood and bottomland forests accessed by a series of trails, and is located just an hour’s drive from Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand. Approximately 4,000 students are enrolled at FMU, and they welcome exchange students from 18 partner universities in 13 countries.

FMU competes inter-collegiately in the Peach Belt Athletic Conference in 12 varsity sports, including basketball, cross-country, volleyball and tennis, and the brand new Griffin Athletic Facility is home to baseball, softball and soccer teams. The campus also features a number of recreational facilities – including two swimming pools, a gym, volleyball and racquetball courts and spacious athletic fields – that are available for use by students.

Francis Marion’s 468-acre main campus is known for its beauty and serenity. The campus includes acres of mixed pine-hardwood and bottomland forests accessed by a series of trails.

In the past several decades Florence has become a major medical, financial and industrial centre. Situated at the intersection of two major interstates, Florence is near a number of exciting tourist destinations. Ninety minutes to the east is the Grand Strand and Myrtle Beach, one of the most popular vacation areas in the United States. About two hours south is Charleston, established in 1670 as a major colonial “port towne” and the site of the cannon shots that began the American Civil War. Directly west is Columbia, the capital of South Carolina and the largest city in the state.

Georgia College and State University (GCSU) is a public liberal arts university located in Milledgeville, a charming, traditional southern town less than a two-hour drive from Atlanta. Approximately 7,000 students are enrolled at GCSU.

Milledgeville is a true college town, offering a great combination of restaurants, bars, shopping, cultural events, outdoor activities and more. Most importantly, Milledgeville is a safe and inviting place where GC students can relax and enjoy themselves. Serving as Georgia’s state capitol for 64 years, Milledgeville is located less than a two-hour drive from Atlanta, and an easy drive from all the other great cities in the Peach State – Athens, Macon, Columbus, and Savannah.

Grand Valley State University – Allendale, Michigan, USA

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is a public liberal arts university in Allendale, Michigan which has a diverse student population of 24,000 representing over 70 different countries. It offers 94 undergraduate degree programmes over eight different colleges which are: Business, Community and Public Services, Education, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Computing, Health Professions, Nursing and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Sustainability is a key principle for GVSU, and it has been ranked as 16th in the world for environment-friendly university management by GreenMetric World University Ranking.

There are lots of ways to get involved in student life while on exchange at GVSU. There are over 400 student organisations to choose from, focuses of which range from academic, cultural, media and special interests to performing arts, sports and more. The vibrant Campus Life Night, comparable to a society fair at DMU is an annual event, allowing students to learn more about these organisations. The Community Service Learning Center is a great way to participate in programmes that benefit the entire West Michigan Community. Initiatives beneficial particularly to exchange students include Fitt the Mitt.

Grand Valley State University’s Recreation and Wellness offers not only Intramural and Unified sports but also fitness services including personal and group training, nutrition and even massage services! The wellness focuses on health and well-being, both physical and mental health are accounted for with many resources available to support this. Facilities include, 95,000 square feet of recreational space at the Recreation Center, a pool, both with free access for students and much more.

Travel – GVSU suggest that students fly to the Gerald R. Ford Grand Rapids International Airport (GRR) where pick-up is organised by the university on designated arrival dates. It is strongly suggested that you do not attempt to take a train or bus from the Chicago or Detroit airports.

Although GVSU has various housing types available, on-campus apartments are what the university recommends for exchange students. Specifically, Laker Village is recommended as most international students live in this community and it is home to the International House. Seinan Gakuin University – Fukuoka, Japan

Seinan Gakuin University (SGU) is a private humanities-focused university with a long history of international exchange and cooperation. The international exchange program, now managed in the Center for International Education, is one of the oldest such programs in Japan. With a total graduate and undergraduate student population of about 8,500, SGU is consistently ranked as one of the leading privately-funded universities in Western Japan.

Fukuoka city, where Seinan Gakuin is located, is situated on the island of Kyushu, the southwestern most of Japan’s four major islands. It is a city built on commerce, with a population of about 1.6 million, and has developed as the cultural and commercial center of the island. The city enjoys a convenient geographic location with easy access to other Asian nations, only 540 kilometers from Seoul and 870 kilometers from Shanghai, versus 1,100 kilometers to Tokyo.

One of the key attractions of Fukuoka is the way it combines the convenience of the city with a rich natural environment. The public transport network is excellent, with rail, bus and subway services that make it easy to get around in the city. Lush natural surroundings – sea and mountains – are only about 30 minutes away from downtown, and the city is noted nationwide for its delicious foods.

All students on exchange at SGU study a combination of Japanese language courses and elective modules which are taught in English in relation to Japanese culture, history, tradition, business and society.

The Japanese language courses include Comprehensive Japanese, Writing and Reading which are offered at different levels. Students with no prior knowledge of Japanese language can start at beginners level.

The SGU student volunteer group, ‘Seinan Global Society (SGS)’, actively holds social events on campus to offer students opportunities to develop international awareness, learn about different cultures and widen their perspectives. Northern Kentucky University – Highland Heights, Kentucky, USA

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) is a growing metropolitan university of more than 14,000 students served by more than 2,000 faculty and staff on a thriving suburban campus of Highland Heights in Kentucky. It is just seven miles southeast of Cincinnati, Ohio and close to Newport, both vibrant cities where you can explore miles of nature trails and attend music, food and cultural festivals all year long.

The Northern Kentucky Norse are the athletic teams of Northern Kentucky University. They participate in the NCAA I which is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States.

NKU academic programs are organized into seven colleges including the Haile/US Bank College of Business, Chase College of Law and School of the Arts. They offer over 80 undergraduate majors including Business, Law, Humanities, Media, Theatre, Education and lots more. NKU has a 19:1 student to faculty ratio which means there is a close relationship between staff and students. The International Student Union (ISU) at NKU is the umbrella organization of all international organizations at NKU. All incoming students are automatically considered members of the ISU which is an important dynamic and welcoming presence on the NKU campus and is open to all. W.I.S.H (Welcoming International Students Home) encourages friendships between the NKU student body, the local community and international communities represented by students studying at NKU. This programme is designed to develop friendships by weekly English conversation groups, attending sporting events in the area (national and amateur), horseback riding, shopping, etc. It Is also an opportunity for cultural exchange.

The ISSS also prepare an orientation schedule for incoming students which runs a week before classes begin. This aims to acclimatise students onto campus and make them aware of resources available. It also allows exchange students to get to know each other, learn about US cultural values and practices, meet the ISSS staff and receive other vital information regarding the exchange period.

Student Affairs at NKU provides quality co-curricular programs and services that incoming students can take advantage of. It is home to over 200 student organisations ranging from disciplinary clubs such as the biology club to service organizations, advocacy groups, Greek organizations, sports clubs, faith-based organizations, leadership societies and more. There is also an exciting calendar of events on offer covering a range of areas throughout the year, such as the annual service.

Health and fitness activities are catered for by the Campus Recreation Center which has multiple facilities including 17,000 square feet of weight and fitness space, over 100 pieces of cardio equipment, Bouldering rock climbing wall, racquetball courts, an Aquatic Center, featuring an indoor pool, eight lane 25-yard lap swimming pool, dive well, warm water tub, and active shallow water area, and much more.

Mount Royal University – Calgary, Canada

Mount Royal University (MRU) was founded in 1910 following a charter by the Alberta provincial government, and today has around 25,000 students enrolled on full and part-time courses at the university. Situated in Calgary, the largest city in Alberta (1.2 million population) students at MRU benefit from it being the sunniest major city in Canada, whilst also being perfect for snow sports with on average, 128cm of snow per year.

Kwansei Gakuin University – Nishinomiya, Japan

Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) is an independent institution for higher education, offering Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in over 35 different disciplines to a student body of approximately 24,700. Founded in 1889, the university maintains academic standards that rank among the highest of all Japanese universities and colleges. KGU places a large emphasis on producing ‘global citizens’, and in 2014 was selected by the Japanese government as one of 37 out of a total of 800 universities nationwide to receive funding under the Top Global University Project.

KGU offers ‘The Contemporary Japan Program’ which is specially designed for incoming exchange students to Kwansei Gakuin University.

Exchange students are offered a choice between two study tracks that will define the main focus of their time at KGU, the “Japanese Language Track” and the “Modern Japan Track”. Exchange students are also able to select elective courses to learn more about “Contemporary Japan” from a variety of aspects such as language, culture, society, economy, and politics.

At KGU, A mandatory orientation of approximately one week will be held at the beginning of each semester, introducing new students to life in Japan and information on KGU. In addition, Acting as language partners for the JLT exchange student’s first semester, KGU student volunteers will assist exchange students in practicing Japanese conversation. Exchange students who are enrolled in the Japanese Language Track will have a Nihongo Partner.

On-campus there is also the GS Network is an official student group endorsed by CIEC, supporting exchange students during their stay in Japan. They also plan cultural exchange activities for both exchange students and KGU students over the course of the year.

More broadly a range of extra-curricular opportunities are offered and Exchange students are encouraged to join KGU student groups to enrich their study experience in Japan. There are over 150 cultural and sports clubs and “circles” on campus. A circle is a group of students who share a common interest in an activity and gather periodically to explore this interest together. Clubs tend to require more commitment than circles do, and are often the equivalent to university level team sports. Exchange students should be aware that they may not be able to join certain clubs/circles due to the length of their exchange.

Hong Kong Shue Yan University – Hong Kong, SAR China

Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) is the first private university in Hong Kong. It was founded as Shue Yan College in 1971 and attained its university status in 2006. During the past four decades, the University has built up a solid reputation in the educational community both in Hong Kong and internationally. Ranked at 301-305 in the QS Asia University Rankings 2021, HKSYU is now comprised of 12 academic departments under the Faculties of Arts, Commerce and Social Sciences. Hong Kong itself is a special administrative region of China (SAR). With a population of over 7.5 million people and over 200 islands it is known for being a cosmopolitan financial and technological hub. There are currently ten university societies and 16 interest groups (including drama, music and sound production) which hold various activities throughout the year and allow integration with local students. The Physical Education Section oversees sporting activity at HKSYU, such as arranging internal competitions or organising the annual Athletic Meet , which showcases student sporting talent.

You can also take part in activities held by university departments. The Office
of Student Affairs, for example, organised an “Adventure Activity Day” to promote greater self-understanding in students. The Hall Management Unit that runs the on-campus student accommodation also hold events which are popular amongst exchange students, particularly the Orientation Programme. Other examples include an E-Sports night, mid-Autumn carnivals and an Ambassador Training camp.

The Career Services Section also holds workshops and recruitment talks which equip the students with skills for their future career. As studying on exchange allows students to develop transferrable skills and prepare for future employment, taking advantage of such services may be what set you apart!

Travel – the nearest major airport to Hong Kong Shue Yan University is Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). Upon arrival, an HKSYU student (exchange buddy) , will meet students at the airport to take them to their accommodation by the airport express train or bus.
Accommodation – guaranteed on-campus accommodation is available in the undergraduate residence hall. This is designed in a dormitory style and is gender-segregated by floor. Students usually reside in twin (approx. £180 per month) or triple (approx. £150 per month) rooms as single-occupancy rooms are limited. Malmö University – Malmö, Sweden

Founded in 1998, Malmö University has had a keen focus on its social commitment to both the local community and student life. It has informed the university’s approach to education through close collaboration with the city and surrounding community; providing an excellent student exchange experience. The university is committed to being an internationally recognised institution, offering over 30 degrees in English with just over 24,000 students enrolled.

Ranked the 14^th best university in Sweden and coming in the top 500 universities in Europe, the university offers exchange students a world class education in the heart of a city with a rich and diverse background. Sweden is also recognised as the 5^th highest ranking country for education and research quality world-wide.

Sophia University – Tokyo, Japan

Sophia University was established in 1913 and has a strong reputation for excellence in undergraduate education, outstanding graduate programs, and a competitive research environment. This has enabled it to maintain its ranking as one of Japan’s top private universities. The word ‘Sophia’ was taken from the Greek language and it means ‘the wisdom which is expressed in ethical activities that further the goals of human existence.’ The wisdom, or ‘Sophia’ is the ultimate treasure which the university aims to give to its students.

Sophia, classed as a pioneer in global education has a student population of up to 15,000 students and welcomes over 1000 international students from 80 countries worldwide. The faculty includes members from more than 20 countries, and most faculty members have overseas study and research experience.

The university is located centrally in Tokyo, a culturally unique city with its mix of traditional and modern elements of Japan. The campus is centrally located within walking distance of places of interest such as the National Diet and the nation’s administrative district, the Imperial Palace and the National Guest House. Shinjuku, one of the most exciting areas in Tokyo, is just a 5 minutes train ride away from Yotsuya, the closest station.

Students are encouraged to participate in student life at Sophia University by joining an extra-curricular club that matches their interests. Over 270 student groups available are categorised in relation to sport, music, theatre, culture, hobbies and more. Examples of things you can get involved in range from learning about the Japanese tea ceremony, practicing ice skating, volunteering in a local nursing home and teaching English to participating in a Drama performance, or joining a group to discuss Anime! Exchange students can sign up for the student supporter program before arriving at Sophia. The supporter student is usually the first Sophia student exchange students meet before class starts and is there to assist you throughout your time at the university. Annually, an orientation camp and freshman week takes place to allow new and existing students to get to know each other and learn about student organisations.

“Global-Network,” or more commonly known as “GL-Net” is a student volunteer organization runs various events for interaction of local and international students at Sophia. What makes “GL-NET” unique is that it is officially sponsored by the Center for Global Education and Discovery at Sophia University. Students can also join SSIC (Sophia Student Integration Commons) which aims to inspire exchange and communication between international and Japanese students.

Yokohama City University (YCU) is a public university in Yokohama, Japan with approximately 5,000 students. Founded in 1882, the university is located 18 minutes outside the vibrant and welcoming port city of Yokohama, and less than an hour away from Tokyo via public transport.

University of Winnipeg – Manitoba, Canada

The University of Winnipeg (UW) received its charter in 1967 but its roots date back more than 145 years. The university has a student population nearing 10,000 coming from over 94 countries. UW has a strong campus community and is known for its small class sizes with an estimated student-to-professor ratio of 25:1. It has a strong commitment to the environment and Indigenous inclusion.

Winnipeg is the 7th largest city in Canada and the capital city of the province of Manitoba. The UWSA (Student’s Association) have 52 student groups categorised into the following, academic/faculty, humanitarian, recreational and religious/spiritual. There is something for everyone and joining a student group is a great way to get to meet other students. They also organise other events on campus and for occasions such as Asian heritage month and Black History month and provide services such as the Bike Lab, dayplanners, and Soma Café.

The university has a strong Arts and Culture commitment, fostered through its academic departments as well as galleries, performance groups and student organisations. UWinnipeg proudly partners with other arts initiatives and organizations to contribute and enhance the creative and cultural vibrancy of the urban campus and city.

The Duckworth Centre and Axworthy Health & RecPlex house the university recreational programming, health and wellness, fitness and sports. The Bill Wedlake Fitness Centre is also available to access, with cardio equipment, weight machines and free weights, indoor walking/running track, Racquetball/Squash/Handball courts and more. There are a range of activities available for students on a drop-in basis.

The university offers fun events throughout the year including weekly coffee chats, cultural and holiday celebrations, picnics, and sports tournaments. Travel – The nearest major airport to the university is Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG). An Airport Reception Service is available for students arriving between the specified dates prior to the start of the academic year.
Accommodation – Exchange students can choose between on campus living residence options. McFeetors Hall offers single and double furnished dorms. Balmoral Houses are renovated neighborhood character homes for student living close to campus. This allows students to have a private room and features shared living areas. University of Turku – Turku, Finland

The University of Turku (UTU) is an active international research university and a vibrant academic community of 25,000 students and staff from over 100 different countries located in Turku, southwestern Finland.

As one of the leading universities in Finland, University of Turku offers study and research opportunities in eight faculties. The University provides students with innovative problem solving skills and high-standard, multidisciplinary education based on the most up-to-date research.

DMU’s exchange agreement with University of Turku allows students enrolled on a wide range of programmes to study abroad:

Business & Law – Accounting & Finance, all Business, Management & Entrepreneurship courses, LLB Law, and Marketing
Health & Life Sciences – Psychology, and Education Studies (some modules at Masters level)
Technology, Arts and Culture – Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Games Production and Computer Games Programming (modules at Masters level), English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing, History and Politics

In addition, students may also choose to study some modules related to Finnish language, culture and history.

As part of this you will be appointed a student tutor who will assist you with practicalities after your arrival in Turku. Travel – the nearest major airport is in Helsinki. There are regular trains and buses that connect Helsinki and Turku, which takes around 2 hours.
Accommodation – Exchange students seeking accommodation for a full year of study can find many different options in the city, but this is not a guaranteed offer by University of Turku. For further information, please refer to the Housing webpage.

Visas & insurance

Visas – To take part in this exchange you are responsible for ensuring that you meet Finnish immigration requirements.
Insurance – All students are recommended to purchase travel insurance for the duration of their time in Europe to cover personal possessions and healthcare. UK and EU nationals can apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) which is time-limited to the length of the exchange period.

University of North Florida – Jacksonville, Florida, USA

Established in 1972, the University of North Florida (UNF) has grown significantly in size and prominence, now boasting over 16,000 students and 2000 staff. The campus includes a nature preserve, beautiful lakes and nature trails, is located between downtown Jacksonville and the Atlantic Ocean in a bustling section of Jacksonville.

The Office of Campus Life fosters a welcoming and engaging environment for students outside the classroom. This carried out through designing student engagement opportunities within campus programs, personal interactions and intentional collaborations. They create different events for students’ such as Wow Variety Show, Block party, Dinner and Shows and so on.

The Department of Recreation and Wellness which focuses on optimizing the health and well-being for the UNF community, specifically by developing a greater appreciation of healthy living and by fostering physical, emotional and spiritual growth and development. The Student Wellness Complex is the largest fitness centre in northeast Florida that students’ can get access to and Intramural Sports is dedicated to provide students’ an opportunity to participate in athletic and non-athletic recreational activities in a fun and safe environment while promoting physical fitness, social interaction, and campus involvement.

Travel – the nearest major airport to UNF is Jacksonville International Airport. It is recommended to take a taxi to your accommodation, which should cost approximately $40-60.

University of Regina – Saskatchewan, Canada

The University of Regina (U of R) is a comprehensive university that can trace its roots back to the creation of Regina College, established in 1911. The College grew in size and significance becoming a campus of the University of Saskatchewan and, ultimately, an independent degree granting university – the University of Regina – in 1974.

Located in the capital of the province, the university known for its experiential learning offer, has approximately 16,500 students with 19% of students being international. The student to faculty ratio is 22:1. The University of Regina is home to 10 faculties and 25 academic departments which have established reputations for excellence and innovative programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.

The University of Regina’s main campus and historic original College Avenue campus, covering 930 acres, provide an attractive study and work environment for both students and faculty. Both the main campus and historic campus are located in Wascana Centre, one of the largest urban parks in North America. Regina is just minutes from Wascana Lake, and it’s surrounded by trails. Admire nature’s beauty while you get some fresh air, exercise, meditate or even study by the shore. The city has a population of over 250,000 and the city is a perfect blend of big city amenities with a small town charm.

Regina is a beautiful oasis on the prairies with more than 350,000 hand-planted trees. The Queen City has many attractions and events that take place all year round for students to take part in. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is headquartered in Regina. Saskatchewan Science Centre, the Legislative Building, several art galleries, Royal Saskatchewan Museum and many parks and walkways can be found throughout the city. Regina is cold, dry, windy and has a lot of snow in the winter. In the summer Regina boasts hot, dry summers with bright sunshine and little rain. Fall is windy and colorful whereas spring has more rain than any other season in Regina.

The University of Regina offers dozens of events every month, most of which are free. Welcome Week is the biggest student celebration of the year, and Frost Week is the on-campus winter festival. For those looking for Sports and Recreation activities, the university athletics teams include Rams (football) and Cougars and intervarsity teams include track & field, volleyball, football, basketball, cross country, hockey, soccer and swimming. UR offers a swimming pool, a fitness centre and intramurals, including more than 11 club sports . Attend fitness classes like Zumba, yoga and spin through UR Fit.

Clubs and academic student societies at the University of Regina operate through the University of Regina Students’ Union (URSU) and the faculties. Travel – The University of Regina is located a short distance (2.4 miles, 7.0 km) from the Regina International Airport (YQR). There are regular flights between YQR and Toronto Pearson International Airport which has good links to UK airports.
Accommodation – Exchange students can choose between various on-campus housing options. This includes dorms with shared and private washrooms, studios and 2-7 bedroom shared apartments. Where kitchen facilities are unavailable, students are required to purchase a dining plan. While private accommodation is available, students would be responsible for arranging this independently.

University of South Alabama – Mobile, Alabama, USA

Passport to South is a week full of events to help new international students transition from their previous institution to life at the University of South Alabama! New international students are required to participate in an orientation program prior to their first semester at the University. In addition to registering for classes, students will become familiar with campus and all of the resources available at the University of South Alabama. Orientation is fun, too! This is a great opportunity to meet other students and make friends.

Once you arrive and get settled in your dorm you will be able to explore our beautiful campus and city! You will get to meet your OIE advisors and International Education Ambassadors who will help you get acclimated in Mobile. You will also have the opportunity to shop for groceries and supplies when you arrive. Travel – Once you have confirmation of your student visa and booked your flight to Mobile, you may complete this form to request an airport pick up at the Mobile Regional Airport. If you are arriving at other airports other than the Mobile Regional Airport you will need to make your own arrangements to arrive at your dormitory.
Accommodation – All incoming exchange students are highly encouraged to apply for housing in the campus dormitories. For options, click here.
