About
On this visit students will have an opportunity to experience a ‘buying trip’ that could not otherwise be bought! They will gain first hand experience of all processes of garment manufacture from cotton arriving at the factory in bales, to spinning, dyeing, knitting, printing, embroidering, and garment sewing processes and quality checks. There will also be the chance to design and cost a garment with a face to face negotiation with the factory manager. This experience will give students CV a boost and offer so much content to discuss at interview, so aims to enhance participants career opportunities. Previous students have received job offers as a result of this experience improving graduate outcomes.
This destination offers a great chance to see all the fabric and garment manufacturing processes within a small district. The factories operate sustainable practice which will be shown and explained to the group. The trip offers real life experiences not only seeing first hand vertical garment manufacture but also in the participation in a live simulated costing negotiation.
The estimated total cost for flights, accommodation and transfers for this trip to Porto is £550. Students will be expected to pay £350, as the £200 DMU Global bursary will be deducted from the total.
