About

Trip description

Students participating in this opportunity will spend two-days attending the academic conference of the European Association of Psychology and Law (EAPL). This organisation is dedicated to developing and promoting research at the intersection of psychology and law, with a special focus on Europe. Attending this conference will enable students to discover the cutting edge research in these areas, which will allow students to understand more about the subject as well as the research process. There will be opportunities to attend presentations from prominent researchers within the fields of psychology and law, alongside a whole host of networking opportunities.

Participants will also engage in a presentation that showcases the work and impact of the COST Action ImpleMéndez project. This EU funded project works to enable wider implementation of the ‘Mendez Principles’ of effective interviewing, aiming to end cruel and inhumane practices of unethical interrogation.

A discounted conference fee of £150 has been negotiated for DMU students, and this includes two-days attendance and the conference dinner (included in the advertised cost).

Why take part?

This opportunity will allow students to explore a new city, new cultures and network at a prestigious international conference, where they will hear from experts from around the world.

Learning Objectives

Participating in a DMU Global opportunity can help you develop knowledge, skills, and competencies that enhance your employability. The objectives of this trip to Vilnius are to:

  • Gain insight and learn about cutting edge research in your area of study
  • Become more familiar with the process of academic research
  • Exposure to networking opportunities with both students and researchers – both established and early career

Ahead of the trips departure, there will be a pre-departure briefing for students, where advice and guidance will be given on how to make the most of this conference experience.

Cultural Activities

It is planned for the group to visit the Vilnius University, taking a tour of the institution that is 750-years old – including artefacts that relate to the development of this university.

Throughout the trip, there will be opportunities to explore Lithuania’s capital, a highlight of which it’s authentic Old Town and the pebbled streets lined with cafes and boutiques. Top attractions that students may chose to visit independently in their spare time include: the Palace of the Grand Dukes, Vilnius Cathedral and the Museum of Genocide Victims.

Visa Information

Due to various external factors and an unprecedented demand for international travel, there are significant delays in visa processing, as well as very limited availability of application appointment slots for some countries and embassies.

We recommend that you take all appropriate steps to secure a visa as soon as practically possible, and to notify DMU Global if you face any issues. It is your responsibility to meet the entry requirements of the country you are travelling to. Failing to do so may mean that you’re liable for the costs incurred to the university (including repayment of the DMU Global bursary).
