£203: This is your estimated cost for travel and accommodation after deducting the £200 DMU Global bursary. It also includes a £3 carbon levy to help offset emissions from your flight.

Eligibility

Level 5 and 6 Fashion Textile Design and Textile Design students are eligible to participate on this opportunity. There are a maximum of 30 places available, with a minimum of 15 participants required for this opportunity to take place. Students are recommended to check the eligibility criteria before applying.

Trip description

This trip to Paris will introduce Level 5 and 6 Fashion and Textiles students to one of the world’s most creative textiles trade fairs to gather information about the industry, experience the scale of the manufacturing sector, and explore the direction of global textiles. Paris is known for its world-renowned art galleries and a plethora of culturally diverse museums and world heritage sites; including contemporary and baroque architecture. All elements of this trip to the French capital are geared towards inspiring innovative design thinking for students’ to consolidate ideas for their final projects.

As part of the trip students will attend the Première Vision Paris at Paris-Nord Villepinte Parc des Expositions. Première Vision Paris is a unique event designed to facilitate the fashion brands in their sourcing and to fuel creativity. Textiles, fabric for apparel, luxury goods, fashion, technical fabrics: this trip will introduce students to the world’s most creative textiles trade fair to gather information about the industry, experience the scale of the manufacturing sector, and explore the direction of global textiles, through interaction with stands which showcase state of the art innovation, sustainable solutions and the future of the industry.


The estimated total cost for Eurostar, accommodation and transfers for this trip to Paris is £400. Students will be expected to pay £200, as the £200 DMU Global bursary will be deducted from the total.

In addition Paris has renowned art galleries and culturally diverse museums, world heritage sites including contemporary and baroque architecture, access to contemporary fashion retail, which prompt innovative design thinking for the students’ final projects.

Cultural activities

Students will also have the opportunity as part of the trip to meander around a variety of museums including the Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, best known for its unusual design by Jean Nouvel, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, a museum of the decorative arts and design, located in the west wing of the Louvre and the Musee D’Orsay home to a vast collection of Impressionist art by Degas, Cézanne, Manet, Renoir, and Monet.

There will of course be time to shop and browse some of the finest Haute Couture shops in the world from Dior and Chanel to Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent, for serious fashion lovers, trips to The Broken Arm and Tom Greyhound are a must. Check out Le Marais for a unique melting pot of culture, food, art and atmosphere. A trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without taking in the picture-perfect views, so of course stop by the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Sacré-Cœur.
