The University of Antwerp (UAntwerp) welcomes over 500 students on Erasmus or other exchange programmes every year, from partner institutions all over the world.  UAntwerp is a young and dynamic university that scores well in Young University Rankings, and have a focus on research, internationalisation and entrepreneurship within a context of student freedom and social responsibility.


The university has a strong community of international students (172 nationalities), and is based in the city of Antwerp which is a vibrant, cultural and charming city in the heart of Europe 


Programmes of study

DMU’s exchange agreement with University of Antwerp allows students enrolled on the following programmes to study abroad:

  • Technology, Arts and Culture –  English Language and English Literature

Modules will be available in English and further information about the study options can be found here. Exchange students will be required to follow a full programme of study for the academic year based at UAntwerp.


Travel & accommodation

  • Travel – the nearest major airport is Brussels Zaventem. There are regular trains from Brussels Airport to Antwerp that take between 35-45 minutes. Further details about getting to Antwerp can be found here. Students may also choose to travel by Eurostar to Antwerp and as a result qualify for extra funding in the form of the Green Global Grant, which encourages more sustainable travel choices.
  • Accommodation – Exchange students seeking accommodation for a full year of study can find many different options in the city, but this is not guaranteed offered by UAntwerp. For further information, please refer to the Housing webpage.

Visas & insurance

  • Visas – To take part in this exchange you are responsible for ensuring that you meet Belgian immigration requirements.
  • Insurance – All students are recommended to purchase travel insurance for the duration of their time in Europe to cover personal possessions and healthcare. UK and EU nationals can apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) which is time-limited to the length of the exchange period.
