Charles University – Prague, Czech Republic

Founded in 1348, Charles University is one of the oldest universities in the world. Today it is the largest and most renowned in the Czech Republic and is known as a modern, dynamic, cosmopolitan and prestigious institution of higher education. Through its excellence in teaching in a range of subjects, as well as its expertise in research and wide international links, the university is consistently ranked amongst the best in Europe and the world.

Primarily located and based in the picturesque Old Town of Prague, the university is home to over 50,000 students across 17 faculties.

Programmes of study

DMU’s exchange agreement with Charles University allows students enrolled on the following programmes to study abroad: 

  • Art, Design and Humanities – English, History, Politics and International Relations
  • Business and Law – Economics
  • Computing, Engineering and Media – Journalism and Media & Communication

Modules will be available in English and further information about the study options can be found (using language and faculty filters) through the Charles University database. Exchange students will be required to follow a full programme of study for the academic year based at Charles University.

  • Accommodation – Accommodation is provided in Charles University Halls of Residence. You will receive information about and will be able to apply for your accommodation after you are formally accepted by Charles University. You can view information about accommodation here.

Visas & insurance

  • Visas – To take part in this exchange you are responsible for ensuring that you meet Czech immigration requirements
  • Insurance – All students are recommended to purchase travel insurance for the duration of their time in Europe to cover personal possessions and healthcare. UK and EU nationals can apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) which is time-limited to the length of the exchange period.
