Originally founded in 1850, Furtwangen University is one of Germany’s leading academic institutions recognised for its excellence in high-quality applied learning, research and collaboration with industry.
The university has three campuses but is primarily based in Furtwangen, surrounded by natural beauty in the heart of the Black Forest. With over 6,000 students, it offers a vibrant and international academic community with high quality and modern facilities.

Furtwangen University offers a wide range of activities on campus including over 30 different sports, from skiing and climbing to tennis and mountain biking. During the semester, the International Centre organises a series of excursions and events. International students present their native countries with culinary specialities, dance and music. The International Festival takes place on the Furtwangen Campus in the winter semester in the auditorium and in the summer semester outside in the Robert-Gerwig Square in Furtwangen in cooperation with the town of Furtwangen. In summer, the HFU Business School also organizes an International Festival on the Schwenningen Campus.
