Eligibility
Most full-time DMU students (including Home, EU and International) are eligible to participate on an International Placement, upon completion of their second year of study. The conditions of an International Placement are as follows:
Financial support and fees
For the International Placement year, you are required to pay a small fee to DMU. This fee includes the ongoing support from DMU and access to services such as the Library, DSU, Student Services, Counselling and Welfare. The current fees are:
- Home/EU students – £650*
- International students – £750*
*This is the current fee for 2020-21 and may be subject to change
Any loans, grants or scholarships you are entitled to are not affected whilst doing an International Placement. This includes the Tuition Fee Loan, Maintenance Loan, and Maintenance Grants.
All students that are accepted for an International Placement are eligible to receive a £400 bursary from DMU Global.
Application process
You need to take the following steps to set up an International Placement:
A DMU tutor will support you during your placement and will usually visit you at least once whilst you are overseas. The placement team will also stay in touch and help you if any issues arise.
Applications to go overseas on an International Placement in 2021-22 close on Monday 27 August 2021 9am. Students should advise the placement team and DMU Global if they are planning to apply for an International Placement as far in advance as possible.
Visas and insurance
Students participating on an International Placement will need to apply for a visa for the country they will be working in. More information about visa types can found on the appropriate embassy website of your home country. Students must also purchase travel insurance for the duration of time overseas to cover personal possessions and healthcare.
Recognition
You will complete an academic assessment as part of your placement, which will be marked at DMU. On successfully passing the assessment, you will receive a Placement Certificate and the placement will be included on your Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR).
