Application Guidance

Eligibility

Most full-time registered undergraduate DMU students (including Home, EU and International) are eligible to participate in an International Placement after completion of their second year of study. The conditions of an International Placement are as follows:

  • The work placement must be in line with your studies and signed off by the placements team and your personal tutor
  • The work placement period must be full-time
  • The work placement should be for the full academic year (usually 9-12 months in duration)
  • The work placement must take place outside of the UK and should not be in your home country if you are an international student.

Application process

You need to take the following steps to set up an International Placement:

  • Visit the placement team in your faculty as early as possible in your degree; placements are often set up more than a year in advance. You can use MyGateway to book an appointment. Please see the locations and emails for all the faculty placement teams here.
  • The placements team will show you how to search the listings on MyGateway and apply for a placement.
  • You will be offered access to 1:1 appointments, workshops, events and interview practice sessions to help you secure a placement.
  • Once you have secured a placement, the placement team will give you information about how to apply for DMU Global funding and support.
  • A DMU tutor will support you during your placement and will usually visit you at least once whilst you are overseas. The placement team will also stay in touch and help you if any issues arise.
