About

Trip description

The purpose of this trip is to immerse DMU students into the learning culture of the University of Paris and to provide depth to their knowledge and understanding of business leadership and people management internationally. This will enable participants to identify comparisons between how business and HRM is exercised between the UK and France, including relationships with trade unions and employee representation.

As the University of Paris students that our students will be meeting in on this overseas experience are all employed in French organisations, the trip will provide networking opportunities and for students to enhance their knowledge of employability or postgraduate study. Our students will participate in a learning day at CIFFOP where they will be involved in group activities and whole class lectures with the students from Paris. The colleagues from the University of Paris: CIFFOP will organise speakers for the day from the world of business and people management.

The estimated total cost for travel and accommodation for this trip to Paris is £400. Students will be expected to pay the remaining amount after the £200 DMU Global bursary is deducted from the total.

Learning objectives

Participating in a DMU Global opportunity can help you develop a range of employability skills and competencies that enhance your studies. The objectives of this trip to Paris are:

  • To gain knowledge of international business and people management
  • To experience learning and teaching in an overseas educational establishment
  • To build personal professional networks for employability
  • To develop independence for international travel and experience differing cultures

Before the trip there will be meetings with DMU Global and Trip leads to prepare for the trip and to action plan personal development plans. Following the trip there will be a follow-up gathering to share experiences and in June 2024 the students from CIFFOP will travel to Leicester to re-establish networks and participate in a conference, students that participate in the trip will be encouraged to attend this event.

Cultural activities

As part of the trips itinerary, there will be scheduled free time to allow participants to enjoy and appreciate the vast culture that Paris has to offer. Paris is a city of culture where students can visit popular attractions, such as; the world famous Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the residence of the former Kings of France, Le Palais de Versailles. Further visits could include the Basilica of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre, a walk along the Champs-Élysées from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe, or a visit to the Musée de l’Orangerie.

Visa Information

Due to various external factors and an unprecedented demand for international travel, there are significant delays in visa processing, as well as very limited availability of application appointment slots for some countries and embassies.

We recommend that you take all appropriate steps to secure a visa as soon as practically possible, and to notify DMU Global if you face any issues. It is your responsibility to meet the entry requirements of the country you are travelling to. Failing to do so may mean that you’re liable for the costs incurred to the university (including repayment of the DMU Global bursary).
