About

Trip description

The trip will encompass visiting the Paris Interfiliere trade show, which is attended by industry on a global scale. Students will experience viewing garments and fabrics, and students will have the opportunity to network with global players from the more influential intimates companies. Students may engage with all activities within the Interfiliere show, which captures trend research, inspiration regarding garments, fabrics and trims, etc., in addition to trend presentations and fashion shows. There will be individual sustainability and technical research presentations in addition. Students can also review garments within the large department and more intimate stores, which will support their future studies within contour fashion.

Paris is the perfect city to host this event as it is undoubtedly a destination home to world-renowned art galleries and a plethora of culturally diverse museums and world heritage sites; including contemporary and baroque architecture. All aspects of this trip to Paris are aimed at challenging design thinking for students’ final projects whilst providing a greater understanding of the sector.

The estimated total cost for travel, accommodation and transfers for this trip to Paris is £450. Students will be expected to pay £250, as the £200 DMU Global bursary will be deducted from the total.

Learning objectives

Participating in a DMU Global opportunity can help you develop a range of employability skills and competencies that enhance your studies. The objectives of this trip to Paris are: to experience the Paris Interfilière show, which is industry-aligned, and to experience exhibitions within Paris to enhance creative developments and industry liaison.

The trip enhances organisation and creative planning, and we encourage research to secure awareness of both the city and the details of the Interfiliere show. The students are encouraged to plan their time carefully and be sure to make the most of the creative inspiration offered to them during the trip. The students receive a booklet prior to the visit to highlight all the possible places to visit that are within reach and affordable. Post-show meetings confirm all learning and experiences, which are shared within the wider contour groups.

Cultural activities

Students will also have the opportunity as part of the trip to meander around a variety of museums including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, a museum of the decorative arts and design, located in the west wing of the Louvre, the Musée Jacquemart-André home to the finest private collection of artworks in Paris, and the Musee D’Orsay home to a vast collection of Impressionist art by Degas, Cézanne, Manet, Renoir, and Monet.

There will of course be time to shop and browse some of the finest Haute Couture shops in the world from Dior and Chanel to Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent, for serious fashion lovers, trips to The Broken Arm and Tom Greyhound are a must. A trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without taking in the picture-perfect views so of course stop by the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Sacré-Cœur.
