How to pay

Payment details: Students will be required to pay £500 as a contribution towards costs after being offered a place on the trip. The DMU Global bursary will be deducted directly from the overall cost of the booking.

Carbon Levy

Student contribution: To offset the carbon emissions from the flight for this trip there is a £5 Carbon Levy for this trip which has been added to the total cost. Information about how this Levy will be used can be found here.

Eligibility

All DMU students are eligible to participate in this opportunity. The maximum number of places on this opportunity is 15. Students are recommended to check the eligibility criteria before applying.

 

Please note, if you have already participated on or been accepted for a DMU Global overseas trip between September 2023 and August 2024 you are not eligible to apply for this opportunity.

 

Students are recommended to apply for no more than 2 overseas opportunities. Further application submissions will not be considered.

About

DMU in cooperation with Lovely Professional University (LPU), based in Phagwara in the Punjab, India are able to offer students the chance to participate in a 2-week cultural experience in northern India. LPU is spread over 600 acres of land has 20,000 students studying at the campus. This cultural summer school will give participants the chance to mix with local students and have a truly immersive Indian experience.

The programme offered specifically for DMU students will provide an enriching academic and cultural experience in a unique Indian setting. Crossing academic boundaries, students will participate in a range of activities that will allow them to appreciate the historical and cultural diversity of Indian, including the chance to enjoy its wonderful cuisine. Due to the varied itinerary, the programme is suitable for all DMU students. The programme will include the following:

  • 2-3 hours per day of workshops and classes on a range of academic and cultural topics (including business, science, technology, history and culture)
  • Daily morning yoga sessions and sports activities
  • A day trip to the famous Golden Temple and city of Amritsar
  • A range of visits to nearby cultural and historical sites in the region, local bazaars, markets restaurants
  • Networking and cultural activities with local students at Lovely Professional University
  • Visits to local businesses and NGOs in Phagwara and Jalandhar

Programme Guide

Practical information

Students that participate on this summer school will all stay in the campus-based UNI hotel. The hotel has its own restaurant, private bathrooms and students will share a room with one other student (single gender).

The programme fee and flight cost is £1500 for the summer school and includes: airport pick-up & drop-off; accommodation, tuition, all meals, local transportation; and entry fees for visits.

DMU Global Funding

Students that successfully apply for this opportunity will qualify for a special DMU Global Summer School bursary of £1000. The cost to students for this opportunity is just £500.


Cultural Activities

There will be a range of cultural activities as part of the formal programme that students can participate in. Activities will include a session on the Hindi language and Indian customs, as well as sessions on Indian dance, Indian clothing and Indian games (Kho Kho and Kabbadi). Students will also take part in a cooking class to make a traditional Indian meal, as well as exploring the Indian mystic practices of yoga and Ayurveda.

Visa Information
