About

Trip description

The main purpose of the trip is to visit the PCIM Expo Power Electronics hub so that students can enrich their electronics education with practical knowledge about who the main businesses are and to see what electronic products they produce.

The PCIM Expo is the world’s largest and most important meeting hub for Power Electronics, Intelligent Motion, Renewable Energy and Energy Management manufacturers, with over 630 exhibitors.  You will receive a personal tour by the trip leader to see the main components that make up real power electronic systems for any application, and these will be put into context with the taught material.

You will be encouraged to attend the daily industry presentations covering important future and current developments in the electronics world, and you will have the opportunity to network and distribute your CV to interested companies.

Why take part?

This trip provides significant enrichment activities that will enhance students as individuals and enhance their knowledge of what makes a real electronic system, and who makes them, to improve their performance as graduate engineers and at interviews.

Learning objectives

Participating in a DMU Global opportunity can help you develop a range of skills and competencies that enhance your studies. Through participation in this trip to Nuremberg we expect that students will:

  • Enrich students’ academic knowledge with the practical knowledge about electronic components, systems, manufacturing, and who the players are – everything that they need to know but do not learn on their course, and what they need to know to give them a winning advantage when beginning their engineering careers.
  • This is an opportunity to stretch their knowledge of different sectors including automotive, industrial, renewables etc., and gain advanced industry knowledge.

Cultural activities

Students can wander the medieval Old Town, with highlights like the Kaiserburg Castle and charming half-timbered houses. Nuremberg’s Toy Museum captures its legacy as a toy-making center, making it an exciting cultural experience. For history, the Documentation Center at the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds offers in-depth exhibits on WWII and its impact for students that are in interested.

Visa Information

Due to various external factors and an unprecedented demand for international travel, there are significant delays in visa processing, as well as very limited availability of application appointment slots for some countries and embassies.

We recommend that you take all appropriate steps to secure a visa as soon as practically possible, and to notify DMU Global if you face any issues. It is your responsibility to meet the entry requirements of the country you are travelling to. Failing to do so may mean that you’re liable for the costs incurred to the university (including repayment of the DMU Global bursary).
