About

Trip description

This trip to Krakow, Poland is being arranged by the Employer Engagement team, part of DMU Careers. The purpose of the trip is to visit 2 global employers, Hitachi and Student Space, where we would engage the students in career enriching activities. Students would have the opportunity to network, participate in a team project and practice recruitment processes for future job opportunities. This will provide students with invaluable opportunities to develop their employability and gain insight into how business and recruitment is conducted in other countries.

The activities would develop DMU Graduate Attributes linked to the following strands: Be Curious; Be Connected; Be Professional and Be More. The provisionally planned activities would include a mock interview or/and a mock assessment centre. There would also be an insight day and a potential for students to compete in a team challenge.

Various group challenges would be organised to help students develop a range of soft skills. One of these will be an organised treasure hunt around Krakow. This would be a team navigation challenge where groups have to find landmarks around the city, presenting students with the opportunity to communicate, collaborate and work as a team.

The trip is open to all DMU students, but we would particularly like to see applications from those curious about:

  • International business
  • Broadening your career path beyond your degree subject
  • Working overseas
  • Visiting a country with a booming tech industry

Cultural activities

Kraków, Poland’s former royal capital, offers a rich array of cultural experiences blending medieval heritage, vibrant art, and living traditions. The UNESCO-listed Old Town amd the Main Market Square hosting the Gothic St. Mary’s Basilica, the Renaissance Cloth Hall are worth visiting. Students are recommended to walk along the Royal Route leads to Wawel Castle, a symbol of Polish statehood, where visitors can explore the cathedral, royal chambers, and art collections.

As part of the trip, an optional visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau will be offered to students (£50), and it is highly recommended that all students attend.

Kraków’s Jewish heritage is preserved in Kazimierz, a district filled with synagogues, museums, and atmospheric cafés, which also hosts the annual Jewish Culture Festival. Students may also visit to visit Oskar Schindler’s Factory and Nowa Huta reveal poignant 20th-century history.
