Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) is is an Italian private research university founded in 1921. Its main campus is located in Milan, Italy, the location where DMU students can spend a year studying on exchange. UCSC is highly ranked in QS World University Rankings by subject 2022, with 16 disciplines ranked in the top 300 in the world, or higher. The University prides itself on its academic reputation and campus diversity.

Programmes of study

DMU’s exchange agreement with UCSC allows students enrolled on a wide range of programmes to study abroad:

  • Arts, Design & Humanities – Politics & International Relations, and Fashion and Design courses (with a focus on the business of Fashion)
  • Business & Law – All Business, Management & Entrepreneurship courses, Economics and Accounting & Finance
  • Computing, Engineering & Media – Media & Communication, Advertising & Marketing Communications
  • Health & Life Sciences – Psychology

Exchange students will be required to follow a full programme of study for the academic year at UCSC. In addition, students may also choose to study some modules related to Italian literature, theatre, cinema, musics and history. There are also highly recommended Italian language courses on offer, but they do have an additional cost to students.


Travel & accommodation

  • Travel – Milan is served by three major airports, Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo which are all well connected to the city centre.
  • Accommodation – Exchange students seeking accommodation for a full year of study can find many different options in the city, but this is not a guaranteed offer. UCSC, in collaboration with MIL SERVICE, SRL, is now promoting various housing solutions for students coming to Cattolica on an exchange or study abroad programme. For further information, please refer to the Accommodation webpage.

Visas & insurance

  • Visas – To take part in this exchange you are responsible for ensuring that you meet Italian immigration requirements.
  • Insurance – All students are recommended to purchase travel insurance for the duration of their time in Europe to cover personal possessions and healthcare. UK and EU nationals can apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) which is time-limited to the length of the exchange period.
