About

Trip description

An amazing opportunity to experience this unique, premium city part-funded by the university. Dubai is a relatively young and modern city that has become a destination for tourism and global business. With its glamorous reputation, hot weather and luxury experiences Dubai turns heads and gains attention.

Students will learn form local organisations how Dubai is marketed to tourists and businesses. They will then see how this can translate to their own personal branding as relatively new entrants to the job market. Students will get to visit the DMU Dubai campus They will also experience a lecture delivered by Ruchi Aggarwal, the Strategic Marketing lecturer at DMU Dubai, about the local area and the marketing opportunities offered in this vastly different cultural context. Students will also hear from businesses and individuals with a link to DMU to find out what it is like to live and work in this exciting city.

The estimated total cost for flights and accommodation for this trip to Dubai is £900. Students will be expected to pay the remaining amount after the £400 DMU Global bursary is deducted from the total.

Learning objectives

Participating in a DMU Global opportunity can help you develop knowledge, skills and competencies that enhance your studies. The objectives of this trip to Dubai are:

  • Recognise how Marketing a young vibrant city has parallels to your own young personal brand
  • Acknowledge that the experience of working and studying in Dubai may require different skills to other areas of the world
  • Identify how Dubai has positioned and marketed itself as a luxury tourist destination
  • Identify and understand the core concepts of marketing strategy in an international context

Cultural activities

This trip will provide students with the opportunity to experience the key leisure and tourism destinations in Dubai, such as the famous palm-tree-shaped man-made Palm Jumeirah, in order to see how Dubai as positioned itself as a tourism destination. The nearby Mall of the Emirates has an amazing ski centre – a winter wonderland in the heart of the desert – a triumph of technology and marketing over environmental conditions. In addition, the group will visit the region’s tallest building Burj Khalifa, to see the incredible view from the top, and its accompanying shopping mall, the Mall of Dubai, to see retail marketing in practice in Dubai.

Celine is a third year Advertising and Marketing Communications student, and in June 2023 she travelled to Dubai as a part of an academic-led trip to explore marketing in the Middle East. Visa Information

Due to various external factors and an unprecedented demand for international travel, there are significant delays in visa processing, as well as very limited availability of application appointment slots for some countries and embassies.

We recommend that you take all appropriate steps to secure a visa as soon as practically possible, and to notify DMU Global if you face any issues. It is your responsibility to meet the entry requirements of the country you are travelling to. Failing to do so may mean that you’re liable for the costs incurred to the university (including repayment of the DMU Global bursary).
