How to pay
Payment details: Students will be required to pay the £930 programme fee directly to TAR UMT after being accepted by them for the summer school. The DMU Global bursary will be paid directly to students.
Carbon Levy

Eligibility
All DMU students are eligible to participate in this opportunity. To qualify for the additional funding for this opportunity students need to meet at least one of these ‘Widening Participation‘ criteria. The maximum number of places on this opportunity is 15. Students are recommended to check the eligibility criteria before applying.
Please note, if you have already participated on or been accepted for a DMU Global extra-curricular overseas trip between September 2024 and August 2025 you are not eligible to apply for this opportunity.
Students are recommended to apply for no more than 2 overseas opportunities. Further application submissions will not be considered.
About
DMU in cooperation with Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (‘TAR UMT’) are able to offer students the chance to participate in a 4-week cultural experience in the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. TAR UMT has a population of 28,000 students, and this cultural experience will give participants the chance to mix with local students as well as summer school participants from across the globe.
This 4-week cultural experience aims to give students the chance to learn about the history, culture, food and language of Malaysia. Due to the varied itinerary, the programme is suitable for all DMU students. The programme will include the following:

Practical information
Students that participate on this summer school will live together with fellow students in university accommodation. The programme fee of £930 for the summer school includes: airport pick-up & drop-off; accommodation & transportation arrangement; entry fees for visits; welcome and farewell lunch and learning materials.
In addition to the programme fee, students will be required to pay for and book flights to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (approx. £800).
All DMU students will receive £400 DMU Global bursary and a minimum of £510 Turing Scheme funding (£910 in total). Students who meet the criteria for ‘widening participation students‘ will also qualify for an additional £120, and £905 towards flight costs.
Cultural Activities
As mentioned above there will be a range of cultural activities as part of the formal programme that students can participate in. Activities will include Lion Dance classes, Dragon Boat activities, a visit to the Sunway Lagoon Park and a Calligraphy workshop.
There will be free time as part of the itinerary, and students may wish to go to the Batu Caves, or explore a range of other main attractions in downtown Kuala Lumpur such as the Petronas Twin Towers, Pavilion Shopping Centre, the Perdana Botanical Garden, KL Bird Park and the National Museum of Malaysia.
