About

Trip description

This is fantastic opportunity to experience this unique, premium city part-funded by the university. Dubai is a relatively modern city in the United Arab Emirates, that has become a destination for tourism and global business in a few short years; its glamorous reputation, hot weather and luxury retail offering all helping to market the city.

In this trip students will be investigating how Dubai works and how it is marketed to tourists and business people alike. Staying on the brand new campus of DMU Dubai, you will get the opportunity to mix with the local student population and also receive tutoring from staff including Ruchi Aggarwal, Head of Faculty, Business & Law at DMU Dubai. You also get to meet local business people including Loretta Ahmed from local marketing agency Houbara Communications, and find out what it is like to work and study in this exciting city.

The estimated total cost for flights and accommodation for this trip to Dubai is £900. Students will be expected to pay the remaining amount after the £500 DMU Global bursary is deducted from the total.

Learning objectives

Participating in a DMU Global opportunity can help you develop knowledge, skills and competencies that enhance your studies. The objectives of this trip to Dubai are:

  • Recognise how cultural factors can impact on marketing campaigns in different global markets
  • Acknowledge that the experience of working and studying in Dubai may require different skills to other areas of the world
  • Identify how Dubai has positioned and marketed itself as a luxury tourist destination
  • Identify and understand the core concepts of marketing strategy in an international context

Cultural activities

There will opportunities to visit attractions as core parts of the trip that have been key to the marketing of Dubai as a destination for tourism and global business, including the Dubai Frame and Burj Khalifa. In the evenings, we will also be visiting retail destinations such as the Mall of Emirates and the Dubai Mall where students can eat, drink and be entertained.

We will also be running a cultural trip to the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, around an hour away from Dubai. There is also plenty of free time to explore the city with your fellow students – in the previous trip, we visited the beach / marina, and the Old Town, where you can take boat trips and visit the local markets.

Visa Information

Due to various external factors and an unprecedented demand for international travel, there are significant delays in visa processing, as well as very limited availability of application appointment slots for some countries and embassies.

We recommend that you take all appropriate steps to secure a visa as soon as practically possible, and to notify DMU Global if you face any issues. It is your responsibility to meet the entry requirements of the country you are travelling to. Failing to do so may mean that you’re liable for the costs incurred to the university (including repayment of the DMU Global bursary).
