HOGENT University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the largest in Flanders, offers DMU students an exceptional exchange experience in the lively city of Ghent, Belgium. Programmes of study

DMU’s exchange agreement with HOGENT allows students enrolled on the following programmes to study abroad:

  • CEM – Computer Science
  • BAL – All Business subjects and Economics

Modules are available in English, and more details about study options can be found here. Exchange students are expected to follow a full programme of study at HOGENT for the academic year.


Travel & accommodation

  • Travel – the nearest major airport is Brussels Zaventem. There are regular trains from Brussels Airport to Ghent that take between 1-1:20 hours. Further details about getting to Ghent can be found here. Students may also choose to travel by Eurostar to Ghent and as a result qualify for extra funding in the form of the Green Global Grant, which encourages more sustainable travel choices.
  • Accommodation – Exchange students seeking accommodation for a full year of study in Ghent can explore various options within the city. However, it is important to note that accommodation is not guaranteed by HOGENT. For further information, please refer to the Housing webpage.

Visas & insurance

  • Visas – To take part in this exchange you are responsible for ensuring that you meet Belgian immigration requirements.
  • Insurance – All students are recommended to purchase travel insurance for the duration of their time in Europe to cover personal possessions and healthcare. UK and EU nationals can apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) which is time-limited to the length of the exchange period.
