Travel – Osnabrück is a well-connected city in north-west Germany. The nearest major airports include Frankfurt (FRA), Düsseldorf (DUS) Hanover (HAJ), and Amsterdam (AMS). From these airports or the Amsterdam Centraal train station, students can reach Osnabrück by train; the main station is Osnabrück Hauptbahnhof. Accommodation – Exchange students can apply for university managed housing through the Studierendenwerk Osnabrück. Rooms are typically furnished, and students may live in shared flats or single rooms depending on availability. Arnhem Business School (HAN) – Arnhem, Netherlands

The HAN University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. There are currently 14 HAN schools and eligible students have the opportunity to study on exchange at the Arnhem Business School during their time at DMU.

With more than 1,000 students from 30 different countries, Arnhem Business School (HAN) aims to enhance employability and internationalisation. Arnhem is a green and bustling city that has plenty to offer including museums, concerts and restaurants as well as lovely green surroundings to enjoy nature at its best.

The HAN’s On: International Welcome Days give you a great start at HAN. Organised by students and staff, it offers loads of useful information, practical tips, and above all, it allows you to have fun and meet other students. This is where global meets social and you learn along the way.

If you want to keep active during your time in the Netherlands, you are welcome to join the various student sports clubs in Arnhem or Nijmegen. Most of the sports venues offer very affordable prices and students from HAN often get a discount. The sports facilities are close by, so you can be even healthier and do as the Dutch – ride there on your bike!

Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) – Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) is the largest fashion institute in the Netherlands, with a team of 100 expert fashion lecturers who coach over 1250 students each year on all aspects of fashion. AMFI is part of the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industry at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

AMFI guides students to become changemakers who actively contribute to necessary changes in different disciplines in the fashion ecosystem by responsibly connecting industry and user needs at various levels. AMFI is the only fashion institute in the Netherlands that covers the entire fashion chain.

AMFI offers a future-oriented curriculum with three graduation specialisations: Fashion & Branding, Fashion & Business and Development and Fashion & Design. AMFI distinguishes itself through an interdisciplinary approach, that is part of the curriculum. During the interdisciplinary study programs, students from the specialisations work together from a shared knowledge foundation to develop entrepreneurial skills.

With an educational focus on digitalisation, sustainability and inclusivity, AMFI is at the forefront of digital fashion design and sustainable, inclusive fashion. The Amsterdam metropolitan region supports circular system change in the textile sector and encourages various initiatives aimed at establishing new fashion ecosystems in consultation with industry, government and education. AUAS offers also exchange students coming to study at AMFI a range of kick-off activities to help you have a fun start to your studies, including an AUAS-wide festival at the end of August. You will also be invited by your specific study programme or international office to attend other welcome events.

AUAS students also have access to dozens of networks that run events, activities and support services for every kind of interest or background. So you can meet people with the same passions, identity, interests and skills as you.

In particular, students are encouraged to engage with the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), which is a student-run organisation that supports international students at AUAS and UvA. Join great events, meet fellow students, explore the city and get paired with a student buddy. ESN’s mission is to make sure you have the time of your life while studying abroad.

Bern University of Applied Sciences – Bern, Switzerland

Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) is a leading, internationally renowned Swiss university of applied sciences that attracts students from across the world. BFH is a university with regional roots but strong national and international connections, offering the perfect environment for students to realise their full potential.

BFH is situated in the heart of the Swiss Alps and offers courses in French, German and English. With just 7000 students, BFH offers a family atmosphere as well as practice-oriented links to industry, public institutions, culture and administration.

BHF offers a variety of activities for Exchange students throughout the academic year. The Bern University of the Arts (HKB) is a department of Bern University of Applied Sciences and hosts more than 300 cultural events each year. Students can participate in city tours, on campus events or easily explore the region to visit theatres, museums and sporting events. BHF also offers a wide variety of sport activities so students have the opportunity to try something new or further develop their skills whilst studying on exchange.

Travel – Bern Airport has limited flights to the UK, therefore students may want to consider flights to other Swiss cities including Zurich, EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg or Geneva and make the onward journey by train.

Charles University – Prague, Czech Republic

Founded in 1348, Charles University is one of the oldest universities in the world. Today it is the largest and most renowned in the Czech Republic and is known as a modern, dynamic, cosmopolitan and prestigious institution of higher education. Through its excellence in teaching in a range of subjects, as well as its expertise in research and wide international links, the university is consistently ranked amongst the best in Europe and the world.

Primarily located and based in the picturesque Old Town of Prague, the university is home to over 50,000 students across 17 faculties.

Charles University has plenty of Societies to join and in addition they also host many Cultural Exhibitions during the academic year. For those interested, sport can be a feature of university life, with many students enjoying from a wide range of sporting opportunities such as Battle on Ice, Rector’s Sports Day and so on. Finally, all exchange students at Charles University are invited to volunteer in the local community while studying at Charles University.

Comillas Pontifical University – Madrid, Spain

More than 100 years old, Comillas Pontifical University is a private Catholic University located in Madrid, Spain. It belongs to a network of more than 200 Jesuit universities in the world. The university combines a long history of experience in education, characterized by academic excellence and a humanistic tradition in teaching, with a constant desire for modernization, stimulated by constant social change.

Comillas is a well-known university in Spain, ranked among the best higher education institutions in the country for most of the programmes it offers. The university has a student population of approximately 15,000, including around 2,000 international students from 80 countries.

ICADE, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (where Law is taught) is situated in the central campus of Comillas and so has good transport links to the rest of the city. This allows students to study at the political, financial and cultural heart of the Spain.

Students can also choose to study the Diploma in Legal Studies, covering courses within the field of International Legal Studies as well as a course about cultural aspects of Spain and a Spanish language course.

Through Comillas Arte, students will be able to participate on cultural experiences (including debates, theatre, visual arts, music) etc. Activities and trips such as tapas tasting and visiting other Spanish cities are organised by UNITY Comillas for exchange students to learn more about the country and culture. The Comillas Charity Work/Volunteering Unit provides students with volunteering opportunities to collaborate with NGOs to create a more human, supportive and equitable world. Finally, the Sports Unit offers multiple sporting events in both individual and team settings and students can also sign up for the gym.

ERAM University School – Girona, Spain

Located in the new cultural factory Coma Cros de Salt, ERAM University School is a school attached to the University of Girona.

ERAM more specifically was founded in 1998 by The Joan Bosch Private Foundation, a non-profit organization, with the aim of creating new professional profiles in the field of audiovisual communication and offering a response to new emerging professions. It currently imparts three official degrees, Audiovisuals and Multimedia, Performing Arts and Audiovisual Communication and Media, each with a unique curriculum.

In the city of the four rivers, history and the mixture of modernity and antiquity converge in the old quarter. From the picturesque houses on the Onyar river and crowned by the impressive cathedral with the widest gothic nave in the world, you will walk through its narrow streets and find hidden treasures, like the Jewish quarter (the Call, one of the most important in Europe), the Carolingian wall or the Arab baths, as well as the outstanding works of the Noucentista period and modern art.

Whilst studying at ERAM University School, students can engage in a variety of activities offered through the University of Girona such as language classes, theatre workshops, the UdG choir and the Xoriguers human tower building group. There are many opportunities to get involved in public engagement and volunteering such as working with children in schools. The university has a dedicated sports centre offering classes such as Yoga, Krav Maga, Zumba and Taekwondo as well as winter sports activities such as snowboarding and skiing.

The charming city of Girona, which houses over 15,000 university students has a varied cultural offer throughout the year, combining leisure, gastronomic, business and cultural activities such as the Temporada Alta Theatre festival or the Black Music festival, and events such as Temps de flors, during which corners of the city are filled with spectacular floral arrangements. It also offers first-class music, good theatre programs and a wide range of museums (such as the Cinema Museum), art galleries and exhibition halls.

Travel – the nearest major airport to ERAM is Girona-Costa Brava airport, located 20 minutes by car from the city. A bus line covers the Airport to Girona city centre departing every half an hour. You can also fly to Barcelona ‘El Prat’ airport. There is a bus service from the airport to Girona that takes 90 minutes. Alternatively, you can also travel by train, changing at Sants station. Furtwangen University – Furtwangen, Germany

Originally founded in 1850, Furtwangen University is one of Germany’s leading academic institutions recognised for its excellence in high-quality applied learning, research and collaboration with industry.

The university has three campuses but is primarily based in Furtwangen, surrounded by natural beauty in the heart of the Black Forest. With over 6,000 students, it offers a vibrant and international academic community with high quality and modern facilities.

Furtwangen University offers a wide range of activities on campus including over 30 different sports, from skiing and climbing to tennis and mountain biking. During the semester, the International Centre organises a series of excursions and events. International students present their native countries with culinary specialities, dance and music. The International Festival takes place on the Furtwangen Campus in the winter semester in the auditorium and in the summer semester outside in the Robert-Gerwig Square in Furtwangen in cooperation with the town of Furtwangen. In summer, the HFU Business School also organizes an International Festival on the Schwenningen Campus.

Rennes School of Business – Rennes, France

Rennes School of Business is a research-based business school based in Brittany, France with approximately 4,000 students enrolled on courses at the institution. They offer programmes taught in English by an international faculty, with students coming from all over the world, and international research cooperation being a key feature of the School.

Rennes School of Business is considered to be the most international School of Management in Europe, giving students a unique opportunity to learn in a intercultural environment. The Rennes School of Business campus in Brittany is located just 10 minutes from the city centre of Rennes, giving students an advantageous environment to live and work to make the most of their year abroad!

Rennes School of Business has a large range of student organisations available to get involved in. The WELL’COME association organises trips for students to destinations such as Mont St. Michel and Paris, and offers students the chance to participate in sporting events, and themed parties and activities such as a Saint Patrick’s party and International day. In addition, the BDS Sports Office promotes sporting activity, and they offer weekly training sessions, gym classes and competitive sporting competitions.

Inholland University of Applied Sciences – Amsterdam, Netherlands

Inholland University of Applied Sciences is an internationally focussed university with multiple campuses across the Netherlands, with Arts and Festival Management being taught in in Amsterdam. There are approximately 37,000 students across the 8 campuses from more than 100 different countries enrolled on courses at the university. Inholland’s international outlook means that the all of their communication is in English, as well as a wide range of taught modules.

HFG Schwäbisch Gmünd – Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Hochschule Fuer Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd is a university of design in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Schwäbisch Gmünd is a relatively small city, but benefits from a really strong strong student community. The Financial Times Germany attributed Schwäbisch Gmünd as ”Germany’s Secret Design Capital“ since there are numerous design agencies, advertising and multimedia companies, architects and creative service providers

Schwäbisch Gmünd with its 60.000 inhabitants is located close to Stuttgart and is surrounded by forests, meadows, and farmland. Street cafés, wine bars, markets, variety of shops, and rich and lively cultural scene give the town its special flair.

Spending a year on exchange will expose you to new design approaches, themes, different teaching, and learning methods by following modules related to the Communication Design, Interaction Design and Product Design. You are allowed to mix courses taught in English from those three programs and the new program, Internet of Things. You don’t have to be able to speak any German, and throughout the year you can enrol on a free, weekly German language course.

Hochschule Fuer Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd organises an International Seminar Week for international students to socialise and get to know one another. MOST KIND (Mentoring OSTwürttemberg – Kooperative Integration Nicht-Deutscher) gives international students a first virtual contact point in their new study and living environment. Additionally incoming international students are able to take advantage of language courses, local excursions and extra-curricula learning opportunities focused on the local region and its history.

The Buddies programme promotes contact between local students and exchange students. Buddies also help you with general enquiries that incoming student may have.

Whilst at Stockholm University we also encourage students to enrol on a supplementary Swedish language course, provided by the department of Swedish Language and Multilingualism. Beginners can study a 4.5 ECTS in term 1, and progress to higher levels in term 2 if interested.

Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) is is an Italian private research university founded in 1921. Its main campus is located in Milan, Italy, the location where DMU students can spend a year studying on exchange. UCSC is highly ranked in QS World University Rankings by subject 2022, with 16 disciplines ranked in the top 300 in the world, or higher. The University prides itself on its academic reputation and campus diversity.

Western Norway University of Applied Sciences – Bergen, Norway

Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) is one of the largest educational institutions in Norway, with about 17,000 students. HVL stretches over 5 campuses and 400 kilometers on the western coast of Norway, but specifically DMU students can spend a year on exchange at the Bergen campus.

A unique feature of the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), is that they have made sustainability one of their three strategic priorities. The special UN SDG focused study programme for exchange students is ‘The Norwegian West Coast Educational Initiative on SDGs’ is a cooperation between the Department of Social Science, the Department of Maritime Studies and the Department of Business Administration at the Faculty of Business Administration and Social Sciences.

VIA University College is one of Denmark’s largest institutions of higher education based in central Denmark with a total of eight different campuses located in locations such as Aarhus, Horsens and Hostelbro. The institution has approximately 20,000 students and 2,000 staff.

ESN Oulu is perhaps the most important event organiser for exchange students. Founded in 1989, the University of A Coruña has undergone significant development through its lifespan, now being considered a modern, innovative, and dynamic university based between the two costal cities of A Coruña and Ferrol. Through programmes covering areas in culture, cooperation, equality, language and technology the University of A Coruña has a diverse range of opportunities for students. UDC creates an environment in which internationalisation fosters and takes centre stage. With over 500 exchange students and academics completing a mobility at UDC every year, students expecting to study here will not feel out of place. Accommodation – The Coruña campus does not have its own dorms and thus private accommodation is required. The university recommends either the “Siglo XXI” Residence hall or Rialta Residence. The University of Alicante is a public university located in Alicante, Spain that was established in 1979. The University of Antwerp (UAntwerp) welcomes over 500 students on Erasmus or other exchange programmes every year, from partner institutions all over the world. The university has a strong community of international students (172 nationalities), and is based in the city of Antwerp which is a vibrant, cultural and charming city in the heart of Europe.

UAntwerp offers a comprehensive programme of activity for students to help them settle into their first 100 days on campus. U stArt will guide you through your first 100 days at UAntwerp by giving you an overview of all activities suitable for you as a starting student. This way, you get to know the university and student life, and get the chance to meet your fellow students. Further information on activities offered by UAntwerp can be found here.

There will also be specific orientation activities offered to exchange students that will include you getting a student card and your welcome gift. You will meet the ESN Antwerp team and STAN, the city of Antwerp’s student service office. There will also be opportunities to ask any questions about your classes or practical matters to the university staff. You will also get the chance to get to know other international students.

Travel & accommodation

Travel – the nearest major airport is Brussels Zaventem. There are regular trains from Brussels Airport to Antwerp that take between 35-45 minutes. Students may also choose to travel by Eurostar to Antwerp and as a result qualify for extra funding in the form of the Green Global Grant, which encourages more sustainable travel choices.
Accommodation – Exchange students seeking accommodation for a full year of study can find many different options in the city, but this is not guaranteed offered by UAntwerp. For further information, please refer to the Housing webpage.

University of Cyprus – Nicosia, Cyprus

The University of Cyprus (UCY) is the first University to be established in Cyprus and is located in the capital, Nicosia. There are approximately 7,000 students enrolled on courses at the university, studying a range of different degree programmes across eight faculties. UCY aims to establish itself as a pioneer research institution achieving international scientific recognition in European Higher Education, offering competitive programmes of study, as well as becoming a centre of excellence in the wider Euro-Mediterranean Region.

The University is a vigorous community of scholars engaged in the generation and diffusion of knowledge. Despite its brief history, the University of Cyprus has earned the respect of the international academic community and the appreciation of the Cypriot society.

The University of Cyprus has a number of clubs that you can join, with each of them organising a range of events and activities through the year. Erasmus events are organized in coordination with the International Students Club which was formed by former Erasmus students of the University of Cyprus and ESN Nicosia. These events include parties, lectures, walks through divided Nicosia, and participation in the Limassol Carnival parade. The Sports Centre of the University of Cyprus offers an Athletic Programme for students interested in keeping fit and playing sport.

University of Deusto – Bilbao, Spain

The University of Deusto is a Spanish private university with campuses in Bilbao and San Sebastián. The University of Deusto is the oldest private university in Spain, with its establishment dating back to 1886. The main campus is situated in Bilbao, a metropolitan area with more than one million inhabitants which is the business and cultural hub of northern Spain, and the heart of the Basque country.

University of Deusto has different cultural events and competitions to partake in such as “Urban Landscapes” photography and drawing contest. They have an agenda of events that you can choose to attend. In addition, the University of Deusto has the Department of Sports provides a space for physical education and sports programs that seek enjoyment and healthy habits. Based in the southern part of Germany, the University of Konstanz is known for its distinguished high-level research, excellence in teaching and impressive international collaboration links.

Founded in 1966, the University of Konstanz has over 11,000 students from around the world across its three main faculties. The campus itself offers panoramic and picturesque views of Lake Constance, and the city of Konstanz is close to Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein.

University of Lucerne – Lucerne, Switzerland

The University of Lucerne is the youngest university in Switzerland. Its roots stretch back as far as 1600, but it has only existed as a modern university since 2000. In the decades since it was founded, the number of students has grown from approximately 250 to around 3500 today.

The University of Lucerne is located in the very centre of Lucerne right next to the railway station and a stone’s throw from Lake Lucerne. Its central location, short links and the fact that the entire university can be found under one roof is perfect for both studies and university life.

With its location in the heart of Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Lucerne and close to the Alps, the City of Lucerne offers an array of leisure time activities. In spring and summer, Lake Lucerne and its beautiful surroundings are perfect for hiking, swimming or sailing. In winter you can enjoy some skiing in the nearby mountain regions which are less than an hour away from Lucerne.

The city of Lucerne is located right in the centre of Switzerland, which means that all other Swiss cities and regions are very close by. You can travel to Ticino, the southern part of Switzerland, in 2.5 hours or visit Geneva in less than 3 hours by train. Other European cities are close by as well, so you could spend the weekend in Milan, Paris or Munich, to name a few.

University of Padova – Padova, Italy

University of Padova is an Italian public research university in Padua, Italy. Located less than an hour from Venice, It was founded in 1222 by a group of students and teachers from the University of Bologna, thus, it is the second-oldest university in Italy, as well as the world’s fifth-oldest surviving university.

The university is made up of 32 departments and eight schools. Padova is part a network of historical research universities known as the Coimbra Group. The university has approximately 72,000 students including undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctoral students.

Internationalisation has always been an important priority for the University of Padova. With over 300 exchange agreements, the University has established long-standing relationships with Higher Education Institutions all over the world, not only in Europe but also in Africa, North and South America, Asia and the Middle East, aimed at encouraging international exchanges of teaching and administrative staff as well as students at all degree levels.

The University of Padova provides a Buddy Service set up to support students under any exchange programme. All Buddies are students of the University of Padua. The task of a Buddy is to welcome exchange students and be a friendly local contact throughout their stay.

The University also organises Welcome Days for all incoming exchange students. Students are introduced to the University and the city of Padua and provided with all the information needed to ensure a great and fruitful stay at UniPD. Travel – the nearest airport to Padova is Venice Marco Polo airport. You can choose to take a bus direct to Padova, or a bus to Mestre and an onward train to the city which will taken between 45-60 minutes.

The University of Strasbourg takes an active part in the cultural life of the region by offering multiple and varied opportunities: exhibitions, shows, seminars, debates, museum visits, and symposiums among others.

Unistra’s Physical Activity and Sports Service (SUAPS) manages the sport facilities on campus and offers over 50 activities – classes, intensive courses, outings – to students and university staff.
